As intrigues heighten for the next representative for Ideato North State Constituency in Imo House Assembly come 2023, the incumbent, Barr. Arthur Egwim has endorsed Hon. Ugboaja Victor Chinedu (Akataobi Ideato), as successor.
Barr. Egwim, while unveiling Akataobi to the coordinators of his structures and political leaders in the Constituency, Tuesday in Owerri, said he vowed not to support any candidate who is bereft of the art of legislation and people oriented representation hence, the choice of Akataobi.
He explained that Akataobi “has adequately paid his dues to the good people of Ideato North, not just as a grassroots politician, but as a community leader with enviable silverlinings to his credit”. The lawmaker stated that his decision to hand over to Akataobi was not his per se, but that of the critical stakeholders in the area after an exhaustive consultation.
According to him, “I did consult with my constituents before today’s open declaration and I want you to take the good news home to your wards, families and communities”. Barr. Egwim assured that the victory of Akataobi at the polls was no longer an issue for conjecture. He pointed out that a simple opinion sampling in Ideato North LGA would indicate that Hon. Ugboaja has already dusted other contenders of the seat.
Barr. Egwim further stated: “I want to use this opportunity to call on all of you present here today, to emulate our brother and friend, Akataobi, and take investing in fellow human beings as a way of life; Akataobi’s altruistic lifestyle is paying off today because his benevolence was not selfishly motivated. He extended unfeigned love to many not expecting anything in return, not even with the slightest premonition that he would be running for an elective position at a time like this; that’s why it’s often said that it’s good to be good”.
In his reaction, Akataobi was effusive with praises for Barr. Egwim for raising the bar of state Assembly representation in the Constituency. He expressed gratitude to the lawmaker for considering him worthy to step into his big shoes, assuring that he would not disappoint him and the people of Ideato North LGA.
