The Enugu State Government has responded swiftly to the appalling case involving Mrs. Ada Ogbogu, accused of assaulting her three-year-old stepson with a pestle, leading to severe injuries.

On Saturday, Mrs. Ngozi Enih, the Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development, announced that Mrs. Ogbogu, residing in Sunrise Estate, Emene, Enugu, was arrested on Friday and is currently in police custody.

“This immediate response underscores the state government’s dedication to child protection and its zero-tolerance policy toward abuse,” stated Enih. “Enugu State stands firmly against child mistreatment, and this arrest demonstrates that anyone involved in such acts will be held accountable. The government’s actions ensure a safer environment for all children in the state.”

Commissioner Enih explained that once notified through a whistleblower channel, she coordinated with law enforcement, leading them to Mrs. Ogbogu, who was eventually apprehended at the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Enugu. The young victim, found with a fractured femur, is now under medical care.

Reflecting on the gravity of the abuse, Enih stated, “It is deeply distressing to see such cruelty inflicted on any child. In Enugu, we have zero tolerance for such actions. Governor Peter Mbah is resolute that no child will suffer abuse under his administration, and offenders will be held to account.”

Enugu’s First Lady, Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, also expressed her concern and personal commitment to the case. She pledged to ensure that justice is served and that the young boy receives the necessary medical care to aid his recovery.
